Engineered wood is a layered product made of an actual but thin slice of hardwood on top of a base of high-quality multi-layer plywood constructed of hardwoods as well.  typical thickness is 3/8″ to 1/2″.  Engineered hardwood outsells solid in the Southeastern states because of its structural integrity in high humidity climates.
